The net widens
You figure that something like writing a movie script would be a very niche activity. Seems that every time you bring the topic up, the person you are talking to has a script in mind or has written one. Or, at the very least, they have a friend that is has written a script.
Just this weekend talking to a work colleague of my wifes, he mentions - after I start the screen writing topic - that his mate has written and produced a film called September. I pull out of bag the latest edition of inside film (An Australian Filmmaker magazine) and there it is on the front cover. This guy has a full time job as a lawyer, but still made time to write and produce a film that would be the first feature produced out of Tropfest for a proper cinematic release. Shows you that you can make time for these things, you just need an ounce of dedication.
So i'm now making sure that I write something in this blog, or write some piece of dialog or action in my own script. Didn't mention before that I have a script on the books. It would be silly to be writing a screenwriting blog without enough interest to have script in development.
So I will keep reading anything to do with scripts - I've just bought "Screenwriting Updated, New (and Conventional) Ways of Writing for the Screen" by Linda Aronson - and try to build contacts with other people with that same storytelling need / instinct.
